On September 14, 1989, Lee was born in South Korea. By nationality, he is a South Korean citizen of Asian descent. He was the lone child born to Kim Jong-Suk, a former grocery store worker, and his mother Lui. Lee’s father was involved in an automobile accident with a family member when he was three years old, and his father never fully recovered. His mother was also impacted by this ordeal, and she never fully recovered. Thus, it may be concluded that Lee’s early years were not ideal.

Lee didn’t communicate much and didn’t socialize till he had his high school diploma. Because of his good looks, he was urged to try his hand at modeling. After applying, he was allowed to walk the Seoul Collection runways, making him the youngest model ever at the age of 15. Many people admired and encouraged Lee since he was a kind man, laid back, and always took his work seriously.

Lee was busy modeling and getting ready to make his idol group debut after graduating from school. However, he decided not to assist him in any manner after learning the truth. Resuming his studies, he finished his undergraduate studies at Konkuk University in South Korea, where he majored in Professional Film Art. She began seeking for a job with local TV networks after graduating, hoping to find something comparable given her background in modeling. She subsequently participated in an acting competition, which she was surprised to win.

Career

Lee was the youngest male model to make his debut in the Seoul Collection program at Seoul Fashion Week when he started modeling at the age of fifteen in 2005 at the Seoul Collection promenade. He has since participated in other fashion show walks. After three months of training as a member of an idol group, Lee signed with an agency to make his stage debut. But he left after the agency failed to fulfill its promise to make his acting debut. When he was in middle school, he participated in an acting audition at the SBS TV station. 2010 saw Lee make his major acting debut in the Prosecutor Princess television series in South Korea. In addition, he debuted on the big screen in the horror film Ghost.

After starring as a young, gifted composer with a sour disposition and a forbidden infatuation with the second male protagonist in the popular drama Secret Garden, Lee began to receive notice. After making an appearance in Season 3 of MBC’s sitcom High Kick in 2011, he became even more well-known. In 2012, Lee was also a co-star in R2B: Return to Base, a rough recreation of the highly regarded Top Gun movie from 1986. In the Adolescent Drama School 2013, Lee played a pivotal part while still a high school student. At the 2012 KBS Drama Awards, he won his first acting honor in the Best New Actor category. In a Gallup Korea survey titled “Actors Who Lit Up 2013,” he also came in fifth place.

Lee appeared in the highly praised drama series I Can Hear Your Voice alongside Lee Bo-young after the success of School 2013. He portrayed Park Soo-ha, a bright young man with mind-reading abilities. The drama’s 16-episode run was extended by two episodes because of its strong ratings. For his performance, he was given the Korea Drama Awards’ Excellence Award in the male category. Subsequently, Lee played a lead in the box office success The Face Reader and a supporting part in the sports movie No Breathing.

He played a corny womanizer in the teen love comedy Hot Young Blood in 2014. Subsequently, Lee played a North Korean defector who practices medicine in South Korea in the popular medical drama Doctor Strange. 400 million people watched the drama in China, where it was a big hit. Lee then portrayed the title character Choi Dal-po in the film Pinocchio, opposite Park Shin-hye. As a first-year reporter for a broadcasting corporation, Choi Dal-po wrestles with the concepts of justice and truth in a society where people want to conceal the truth. Another success was Pinocchio, which reportedly brought in 6.2 billion won (US$5.62 million) for the license to air in just one year. Acting honors were bestowed upon Lee by his roles in the dramas Doctor Stranger and Pinocchio, including the 8th Korea Drama Awards’ Male Top Excellence Award. Additionally, he made history by becoming the youngest actor to win television cinematographers’ Best Actor category at the 27th Grimae Awards.

After that, Lee started a nine-month tour of Asia, attending fan gatherings. During the trip, Lee took pictures of his meetings with fans in seven different Asian cities, which were published in a photobook titled 2014-2015 Asia Tour Story ~With~. Lee was also paired with actress Zheng Shuang in his debut Chinese drama, Jade Lovers. The drama is billed as a fantasy romance serial that takes place in the 1930s and was shot in Shanghai. Owing to Lee’s popularity in China, the actor had a wax statue of himself unveiled in a ceremony at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong. Lee left Wellmade Yedang, his prior agency, in December 2015, and on May 10, 2016, he inked an exclusive deal with YG Entertainment.

Alongside Han Hyo-joo, Lee made a comeback to the Korean small screen in July 2016 with MBC’s fantasy thriller W. In Korea, the drama became the most popular show, and Lee was awarded the Daesang (Grand Prize) at the MBC Drama Awards after the year. He co-starred in the Lotte Duty-Free online drama 7 First Kisses, which was a promotional project, that same year. Lee played the starring part of a villain for the first time in the 2017 crime film VIP. In September, Lee costarred with Bae Suzy in the supernatural-procedural drama While You Were Sleeping. The Korea Tourism Organisation named Lee a Goodwill Ambassador for Korean travel in July of the same year. Along with the actor, the organization published “8 Episodes of Korea” advertising movies, which highlighted tourism destinations across ten various areas, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Jeju, and Gyeongju.

Lee was chosen for the three-episode drama The Hymn of Death (2018), which is a reimagining of the Death Song movie from 1991. After his contract with YG Entertainment expired on March 31, 2018, Lee joined with YNK Entertainment, a new management company. However, he left the company five months later and founded his agency, “A-man Project.” He co-starred with Lee Na-young in the romantic comedy-drama Romance Is a Bonus Book in 2019. Following his discharge from the service in 2021, he returned with a cameo in The Witch: Part 2. The Separate One. Lee later stated that he would be appearing in the official film Decibel with Cha Eun-woo, Lee Sang-hee, and Kim Rae-won. Lee will play the antagonist in a film for the second time. He plays the antagonist in the first film, VIP. Three years after being released from the military, Lee confirmed his return for the MBC drama Big Mouth starring Im Yoon-ah later in September 2021. In 2022, it was broadcast. On September 12, 2022, Lee hosted a fan event called “RE, JONG SUK” in Seoul’s Blue Square Mastercard Hall.
