Are you going out with friends and wondering how to make the night enjoyable? Do you want to find some enjoyable games to play with your friends, colleagues, and cousins? If so, this pub golf article is best suited for you.

How To Play Pub Golf – Drinking Game

Pub Golf - Drinking Game

To add some variety and interest to your evening, consider playing Pub Golf. One of those games made for people to enjoy and have a good time is pub golf.

Whether you want to go out during the day or after dark, there are probably a few reasonable bars where you can drink, eat, and have a good time wherever you live. The catch is that, unlike the actual game of golf, this game does not involve any balls or fairways.

What is Pub Golf?

Pub golf is not at all like competitive golf. It’s more like a social activity or party game that could be enjoyed with friends when making plans to go to bars or pubs.

The Drinking Game is another name for this. You might feel happy to know that you don’t have to get up early to drive to the golf course or carry around a bulky bag of clubs all day. This game is a must-try.

The only requirements are to dress nicely and choose a few of your favorite local pubs in the town, which are typically 9 or 18 in number, just like the “holes” in a real round of golf. Depending on the time and the size of your group, you can select either 9 or 18 pubs.

Everyone in the group must consume one or more drinks, depending on the par for each pub. The par for each pub is the number of sips, swigs, or gulps necessary to finish the drink you are currently sipping.

The goal is to complete the course in as few strokes or gulps as you can, just like in the version of golf without alcohol. You may gain “strokes” based on your consumption and behavior; we’ll talk more about this later.

The winner of the pub golf competition is the player with the lowest final score. Typically, the ultimate winner receives a pre-decided prize. Whatever suits you and your group the best, create your version of this game.

Pub Golf Rules

The rules of pub golf can vary from group to group, but here are the standard rules which you can try. We’ll share our pub golf rule book in this article. You should use these guidelines with caution.

Because, in most cases, by the third bar, you have forgotten the rules of the game and are simply drinking and chatting trash. However, you can still play Pub Golf in spirit if you wear one of these outrageous outfits.

Pub Golf – Drinking Game Rules

Choose the players

Send your crew some texts, emails, and/or social media messages once you have a few dates in mind to see who wants to join and which times work best for everyone. Make sure to encourage everyone to invite their friends if you want a sizable turnout. Choose if you want to make it an individual game or team activity.

Choose the pubs

Even if you live in a small town, you can still put together an incredible game of pub golf. If you live in a big city, you will probably have a lot of fantastic bar areas to choose from.

To make it simpler to move from one bar to another, try to select a few that are close to one another. Try to list all the pubs and make a map of them. In addition, also check beforehand in the daytime if the pubs listed are open or not.

Setting up the game

You can choose how many drinks you’ll order at each bar, but it’s typical to order just one at each. You can select the drink beforehand at each bar.

Assign time limits at each bar. Decide the game score. Each player must carry their scorecard and follow pub golf’s basic rules, which require them to drink a certain amount at each of the 9 / 18 bars. Create a list of different types of penalties. Select a car driver who remains sober when others are drunk and can’t drive.

Prize for the Winner

Typically, a prize is chosen in advance for the occasion. Sometimes only bragging rights or a ridiculous trophy are produced. But keep in mind to drink sensibly and within your limits. Just a fun game!

In addition, you can create some additional rules for the game. This can take the form of a forfeit for the loser or penalty strokes for players who spill their drinks, trip over, vomit, or engage in any other behavior that merits a penalty.

Pub Golf Penalty Strokes

Some excellent examples of how this might function are provided in the list that follows.

  1. 2 strokes were added on for missing a hole (pub) or falling over.
  2. 10 strokes were added on for throwing up during the game.
  3. 1 stroke added on for a spilled drink.
  4. 2 strokes added on for spilling a drink on yourself.
  5. 20 strokes added on for starting a fight with other players.
  6. 3 strokes were added on for using the Water Hazard.
  7. 1 stroke added on for Burping or Farting.
  8. 30 strokes added on for Cheating.

Pub Golf Scores

You will all need to carry your score cards and record your scores on them, just like in a real round of golf. There is par for every bar, which indicates how many sips you should take to finish your drink there. You will have performed at par if you can finish it in that many sips.

You will be either under or over par for that pub if you finish a drink in fewer or more drinks than the required number. The theory behind this game is that the person who has consumed the fewest drinks throughout the evening is most inebriated and will therefore win.

The event’s organizer might even make arrangements for some prizes to be awarded at the conclusion. The losers may regret their poor performance when they have to complete a crazy or embarrassing task, depending on how crazy your crew is.

Some examples are Shouting something embarrassing in the crowd, Allowing the winner access to your social media, and many more.

Scorecards of Pub Golf

If you didn’t have a scorecard, pub golf wouldn’t be the same. You can define the guidelines and drinks for your group and print our personalized scorecard. Alternately, use our pre-made scorecard below if you prefer a set of pre-established guidelines. Just remember to include the bar stops you’ll be having along the way.

Pub Golf Outfit Ideas

Even though dressing up isn’t strictly required, it does add a whole lot of extra fun to the evening. You and the other drinkers should likely search for the craziest and most outrageous golf equipment you can find in this situation.

You might feel a little silly at first, but as you start to finish a few holes under par, you’ll start to get in the groove and begin to appreciate the fact that everyone is dressed funny for golf.

Participating in themed events and dressing up in outrageous attire is one of the best parts! After all, wearing a costume makes everything more enjoyable. The benefit of Pub Golf is that it has a simple theme and most of the equipment you need is probably already in your closet or stowed away in a drawer.

Anything in a plaid, argyle, or bright pattern, including golf shirts, shorts, knee-high socks, athletic skirts, and visors, will look good. Additionally, you can include some entertaining extras like inflatable golf clubs, sunglasses, wigs, golf shoes, and more.

Pub Golf Suggestions

  1. At one or more of the bars, order a pint of water instead of a beer. Pub golf can be made much more enjoyable by providing non-alcoholic options and giving those who may not be heavy drinkers a chance to compete.
  2. Instead of a drink, one or more of the bars should offer food (ex. eat a pizza in 3 bites for par)
  3. Try other bar games when reached a par like Pop-a-Shot, Darts, and Pool. For instance, if you decide to play skeeball at a bar with a par of 4, you can set ranges that correspond to some fixed strokes.

Best Time to Play Pub Golf

If you’re having trouble choosing a theme for your night out, consider playing a round of pub golf. It would be a better idea to play this game if you only go to pubs and bars at night because nightclubs are notoriously ambiguous about their dress codes.

Therefore, make sure you have a specific list of the bars and pubs you intend to visit in the evening before you go out to celebrate with some drunken antics.

Conclusion

I’m done now! For your round of pub golf, try to get creative with your penalties and rules. The most important thing to keep in mind is to go slowly and only consume as much as you can comfortably handle. Sickness is not worth it. Wishing you luck on the course!
