Starting a business is one of the most challenging and exciting things to do. While excitement is a common thing with startups, it can turn out to be a bad thing as it leads to unnecessary choices at the initial stages. Many startups get caught in the excitement forgetting that the purpose of a business is to make profits.
Entrepreneurs often get a rude awakening when their startups do not yield profits in five years with the support of the investors. Making sales without making profits is like moving in circles. Therefore, entrepreneurs need to move past that and push themselves to make profits through effective branding.
Why Branding Matters
Branding your business is more important than you may think. Your brand is your business identity and gives your business a personality.
Social media exposes brands to consumers every day and with a huge amount of competition, producing flimsy visual designs and shady marketing campaigns and branding efforts ultimately wastes company resources.
A company that lacks cohesive branding can never stay in someone’s mind for a long time. Branding matters because it makes more people recognize your business.
If you have a strong brand, people will naturally notice it and do business with you. Elements such as a distinct logo, attractive colors, and other visual elements make your brand more memorable.
Branding can help you build trust by showing your customers that you are an established and credible business. Branding also helps you improve your advertising, create loyal customers, and make your employees feel involved in something more than just their day-to-day job.
A Startup’s Branding Essentials
Your brand tells your customers what to expect from your products and services. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what consumers think, how they feel, and what they want, need, and desire.
Here is where media agencies NYC come in. A media agency in NYC can help you implement and manage marketing strategies to achieve your business goals. But before you reach out to a media agency, here are branding must-haves to consider.
Unique, Instantly Recognizable Logo
Your logo communicates ownership, quality, and values. It grabs the attention of your target audience and makes a strong first impression. A unique and instantly recognizable logo is what sets you apart from the competition. Plus, a good logo can be added to every bit of advertising you do, whether that’s a letterhead, an email signature, or something physical like a flag flying from one of the various flagpoles for sale outside the business itself. There might be tens of coffee shops in the city, but if yours is the only one that is committed to sustainability, green and earthly logos can make you distinct.

Strong Domain Name
A domain name is your business identity. While it may seem fun to have a catchy name, it might not help people identify with your products or services.
A URL that tells what a business does is likely to get more clicks than the one that doesn’t. Many startups operate with limited budgets and hence rely heavily on word-of-mouth as a premier marketing tool. It’s, therefore, essential to create a domain name that is meaningful and easy to pronounce.
Professional Email Address
Eighty six percent of professionals regard email as their favorite mode of communication. Having a professional email as a startup can earn you credibility and trust.
Creating a branded email is easy and less costly depending on who you choose as a web host or domain name provider. You can get a professional email address through G-Suite by Google.
Well-Designed, Responsive Website
The quality of your website can make or break how you generate more revenue. A well-designed and responsive website can have a massive impact on business success regardless of the industry.
Think of your website as the foundation of your company image. A good website should give updates, stay consistent with marketing tools, and be mobile-friendly.
Consistent Brand Strategy and Messaging
Consistency ensures that your brand is easily recognized across marketing channels. Brand consistency entails delivering messages aligned with your brand promise, brand identity elements, and customer experience.
Consistent brand strategy and messaging fosters lifelong customers, and to achieve it you need to build trust and provide a feeling of reliability.
Branding consistency also instills a feeling of brand recognition, comfort, convincing customers to buy from you again and again.
Why Bad Branding is Bad for your Business
Bad branding can give customers a negative view of your company and give an impression that you don’t care about them.
The Bad branding can also make customers perceive your products to be of poor quality and cost you trust. Bad branding can be in the form of a poorly designed logo, ignoring social media, and dishonesty.
Branding is an expression of your values, integrity, and your mission. Therefore, you need to always get it right to effectively clarify what makes you a better choice.
The site is where most of it shows — why startup websites still fall short is blunt about it.
