Early Life and Education

His father took him to the rehearsal hall when he was three. His father taught ballet in an amateur class. Yunxi’s father saw that his little son could dance well and thought that he should learn as well. He studied folk dancing for amateurs for several years and obtained 11 years of professional ballet training. He gave an unexpected solo performance of “The Burning Flame” in the 6th Chinese Lotus Award Campus Dance Competition in 2008 on behalf of his school. In that competition, he and his classmates’ group ballet performance of “Tchaikovsky Rhapsody” took home the gold medal. They were the grand jury prize winners of the Professional Dance Competition in Six Provinces and One City in East China that same year.

After being accepted to both Shanghai Theatre Academy and Beijing Dance Academy, he chose to attend the former to get to know Hu Ge, the star of the then-popular television series “Chinese Paladin” (2005). Regretfully, Yunxi’s first year at the academy saw the graduation of his favorite actor, thus that didn’t happen. Luo Yunxi majored in ballet and graduated in the same. Following his graduation, Luo worked at the “Macau Conservatory” as a dance instructor and performed as one of the principal dancers in the modern ballet “Flying to the Moon” on stage.

His co-star in “Love is Sweet,” Bai Lu, reportedly had supper with him at the Hengdian Hotel when their relationship began in July 2020. It was reported that Yunxi arrived first, then the actress, and that after a while, they both emerged one after the other and drove off. They said that the two got together following their day’s work completion. Fan clubs for both celebrities refuted dating rumours and clarified that it’s okay to socialise with friends or coworkers.

Career

At first, he aspired to be a ballet dancer in a dance company, but he didn’t measure up to the required height of 1.8 meters. After that, Yunxi moved to Macao where she got paid well to do modern dance. He practiced for the ballet performance of “Flying to the Moon,” which was choreographed by Ying Eding and Yang Minjian, for the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium’s 2009 celebration of the 10th anniversary of Macao’s transfer of sovereignty from Portugal to the People’s Republic of China. He had classes in the morning and rehearsals in the afternoon. After a year, he returned to his hometown and began instructing ballet in a class for amateurs. He was severe with every one of his pupils.

He had a strong sense of passion for what he did and found fulfillment in teaching others. He was invited as a guest by a former student of his dance academy who was employed by a television show, and after seeing his performance, a Beijing-based entertainment company requested that he join as a trainee. Despite his contentment as a teacher, he expressed his desire to give singing a go. Initially, his parents were not in favor of the concept since it would require him to give up ballet and resume training; nonetheless, he was happy that they ultimately agreed with his choice. His father promised him they would welcome him back if he failed, but he had to accept the consequences if he made his own decision. After that, Yunxi travelled to Beijing and resided in an apartment that the agency rented, each of which had a separate room, with two other trainees. They put in a lot of effort from dawn until night while receiving instruction in singing and dancing.

He made his formal debut as a member of JBOY3, an idol group, before the end of 2010 when their first single, “Promise of Love,” was released. The three-piece band broke up in 2012 after releasing the singles “Walking Emoji” and “Gravity” in 2011. Soon after, Yunxi and his fellow musician Fu Long Fei, also known as Jason Fu, established the group Double JL, making their debut in April 2012 with the release of their single JL. In 2013, they formally called it quits.

After participating in the singing competition “Asian Wave” in 2012, he garnered popularity and a filmmaker approached him about doing a movie. When asked why he chose to pursue acting, he explained that, in contrast to singing, playing diverse roles gave a different kind of challenge and satisfaction. In December 2015, Yunxi was chosen to play the lead part of Guo Yang, Tan Songyun’s character Yang Fangfang’s love interest, in the romantic film “The Spring of My Life.” As a first-time actor, he had no trouble shooting the picture because the entire production made the required changes.

In 2018, he returned to television with a 36-episode series called “Flip in Summer,” where he played the supporting character of Xiaoshen. The show had been off the air for five years. Yunxi had a hard time filming this drama since the director often chastised him for not knowing what to do on set and even warned him to go home if he couldn’t perform. His acting consequently deteriorated as his nervousness increased.

When he ran out of sequences to shoot, he started sticking on the set to watch his more seasoned co-stars and seek their advice. Initially, he was about to give up, but instead, he thought of ways to get better. He put a lot of effort into his studies and practice, but he felt it wasn’t enough, so he took professional performance training in between takes. He joined Lafeng Entertainment in 2014, and the firm co-produced the online series “Hello Aliens,” which was his first effort.

When Yunxi played the youthful He Yichen in the love melodrama “My Sunshine,” opposite Janice Wu as the young Zhao Mosheng, the people took notice. Wallace Chung and Tiffany Tang played the key roles as counterparts after a span of seven years. Some internet users questioned whether the characters underwent plastic surgery in South Korea during the time jump and attacked the production for the disparity in appearance between the young and adult actors after pictures of the young actors were revealed. The play, which was based on Gu Man’s book “Silent Separation,” was shot to fame after receiving over 10 billion views on the internet.
