Career
Kim Young Dae had no intention of becoming an actor until he was approached for it while in college. In 2017, this handsome Pisces actor made his formal debut on the web drama Secret Crushes: Special Edition, which aired on WHYNOT MEDIA. One year later, he continued to act in several web dramas, including Office Watch 2, Just Too Bored, What to Do with You, Crushes Reverse, and Room of Romance. In the same year, 2018, Young Dae landed his first lead part in It’s Okay to Be Sensitive. He returned to the main part for more dramas in 2019, appearing in About Youth, To My Beautiful Woo Ri, and Extraordinary You, where he gained fame by starring with Rowoon, Hyeyoon, and Naeun. That year, in October, Young Dae was hired as a runway model for SONGZIO HOMME, a fashion company founded by Song Zio, for the 2019 Hera Seoul Fashion Week. Young Dae continues to act in When the Weather Is Fine (2020), Cheat on Me If You Can (2020), and The Penthouse: War in Life (2020).
The story of Extraordinary You is set in a renowned high school for wealthy pupils, and Eun Dan-oh is the drama’s main character. She’s the wealthy man’s daughter, and she has a heart issue, so if she gets too stressed out or overexerts herself, her small watch beeps and alerts everyone that her heart rate is rising. She is betrothed to Baek Kyung, who could care less about the fact that they are scheduled to marry. He isn’t the kindest person, and his family merely wants them to marry so that they may benefit from her family’s fortune. One day, Eun-oh realizes that the world she lives in is not real. She finds herself in many scenes and scenarios, and she becomes aware that some of the judgments she wishes to make are not within her capabilities. She obtains a copy of the webtoon she is in from the local school chef, who has been fully aware of the situation throughout. They’re entirely made up, and the universe they live in is dictated by a secret author in the real world. Eun-oh is especially saddened to learn that she is not the primary character of the webtoon—the poor girl on scholarship who is tormented by the other students. Worst of all, Eun-oh will die soon. When she realizes this, she decides to reverse her fate before she dies. Even when she tries to adjust the events, nothing works until she realizes that the unnamed student in her class, number thirteen, can help change the primary storyline. She gives him the name Haru, and they decide to help change the fate of the characters. When the original second male lead (the violinist) realizes that this isn’t the actual world, he resolves to live his life on his terms as well.
However, changing the tale has implications. Baek Kyung becomes aware at some point and conflicts with Haru, who vows to pursue Eun-oh for real this time. Haru is aware that if he continues with the story, he will disappear forever. But he still assists Dan-oh, who also tries to help the original female lead. Dan-oh’s heart eventually fails, and Haru vanishes as a result of a chain of circumstances. The writer portrays him as a member of Baek Kyung’s squad, his memories erased, but everyone knows who he truly is. Eventually, he regains his memory, but Dan-oh dies from a heart issue and returns with no recollections. The side narrative at this point is that all of these characters were essentially copied and pasted from a historical manhwa, and everyone who saves the chef is unaware that the ending is tragic. The chef also has his plotline in which he loses his love from the historical webtoon, but she is now a student who is clueless in this version. Throughout the series, Baek Kyung has a change of heart and resolves to let Eun-oh and Haru enjoy their romantic relationship. The narrative then follows this tension throughout, and when their story concludes and everyone prepares to graduate, Haru vanishes. Eun-oh travels to college, where she meets Haru, and their narrative begins in a separate webtoon, presumably.
